  • Hanna Instruments Nitrate Low Range Checker

Hanna Instruments Nitrate Low Range Checker

Easy and Accurate Nitrate Testing for your Saltwater Aquarium!

Get highly accurate results with the HI781 Marine Nitrate Low Range Colorimeter. With a digital read out, there is no more struggling to determine colors visually. This nitrate tester’s compact design fits in your pocket or easily stores ina droor or testing bin with your other equipment. The test process is extremely easy and delivers guess-free results in just a few minutes.

Features at-a-glance:

  • For use with saltwater samples.
  • More accurate than chemical test kits.
  • Dedicated to a single parameter.
  • Small size, big convenience.
  • No errors with a digital readout.
  • Ideal for aquariums and marine biology applications.

The HI781 Checker is a simple, accurate, and cost-effective way to measure nitrate in your saltwater aquarium.

Nitrate is a by-product of the Nitrogen cycle. Excessive amounts of nitrates in a reef aquarium can promote the growth of undesirable organisms including algae and dinoflagellates while insufficient amounts can lead to starvation in which SPS and other corals will show signs including the loss of color and paleness.

The HI781 Nitrate Checker HC is a handheld colorimeter that uses the Beer-Lambert principle to determine the concentration of nitrate colorimetrically. The HI781 is designed specifically to measure low levels of nitrate in a saltwater aquarium.

  • Coral Red Pencilfish (Nannostomus Mortenthaleri)
  • Coral Red Pencilfish (Nannostomus Mortenthaleri)

Coral Red Pencilfish (Nannostomus Mortenthaleri)

$15.00

Only scientifically described in 2001, the Coral Red Pencilfish has a red body with two bold horizontal black lines. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful pencilfish.

To distinguish the males and females apart are simple. The male has a white flash on dorsal while its anal fin is entirely red. The female on the other hand have no white flash on dorsal fin, anal fin broader than the male with a clear border.

Due to its colouration it is very eye-catching and an active fish. The Coral Red Pencilfish should be kept in a group of at least 6 fish. Remaining relatively small and barely reaching over 1 inch (2.9)cm in length, it makes a great addition to any community tank. However, it would not do well with larger fishes as they are easily intimidated. They are peaceful and are not aggressive towards other species, so the Coral Red Pencilfish makes good community fish.

Green Star Polyps (Frag)

$15.00

A beginner friendly coral, the Green Star Polyps are a great coral for beginners. Once successfully acclimatized and established in the aquarium, the Green Star Polyps are known to be hardy and grow fast quickly covering the areas they are placed at. It is an encrusting species that will grow on most surfaces including glass and rocks.

The Green Star Polyp comes in a variety of assortments yet the different variants grows well under most conditions. They are a peaceful coral armed with the defensive capability of being able to retract or deflate each of their polyps in response to predation. They will not harm other corals that are placed close to their colony, but are susceptible to being damaged by any aggressive corals in the reef aquarium. Requiring a medium to high light level combined with a medium to strong water movement within the aquarium. For continued good health, they will also require the addition of iodine and other trace elements in the water.

They have symbiotic algae zooxanthellae hosted within their bodies which provides the majority of their nutritional requirements through photosynthesis. They also benefit from weekly feedings of micro-plankton or foods designed for filter feeding invertebrates. The Green Star Polyps can be easily fragged or cultured by taking a cutting from their encrusting base and gluing it to a hard substrate such as a rock or a frag plug.

The Dwarf Rasbora (Boraras Maculatus) are native to the tropical forest swamps and water ways found in many of the jungles of Southeast Asia. They come from black water streams and pools that are tinted dark brown from the tannis released from decaying organic matter. The substrate of these streams is made up of a sandy bottom with a thick cover of leaves, branches and twigs that form an intricate maze of hiding spots for numerous small fish species that thrive there. The Dwarf Rasbora thrives in this dimly lit and densely vegetated environment. They use this dense vegetation to both hide from larger predatory species of fish; as well as, to hunt for small crustaceans, insects, worms and zooplankton on which to feed. They have adapted to this dimly lit, very soft and acidic water and will do best in the home aquarium if housed in a similarly designed aquarium habitat.
